The Student Camera of Record. Pure, Mechanical, Built to Last.
When Pentax introduced the K1000 in 1976, it stripped the SLR down to its essentials: a fully mechanical shutter from 1 second to 1/1000, a center-the-needle light meter, and the new Pentax K bayonet mount. No self-timer, no depth-of-field preview, no automation. Just you, the light, and three decisions. That simplicity made it the camera photography schools recommended, and often required, for two decades. Production moved from Japan to Hong Kong and later China, and continued until 1997, by which time more than three million had been sold. The battery powers only the meter, so the shutter fires with or without one. This example is in Very Good condition, with honest marks from use and nothing that gets in the way of shooting. For the student learning exposure the way it was meant to be learned, or the photographer who wants a camera that will outlast them.
