The XA2, Updated for the DX Era. Pocket Simplicity, Faster Film.
By 1985 the XA family had become one of the most recognizable pocket cameras of its era, and the XA3 brought its simplest member up to date. Outwardly it is the XA2 you know: a sliding clamshell body, three-zone focusing and a 35mm f/3.5 D.Zuiko lens. Inside, Olympus added DX coding, so the camera reads film speed directly from the canister, and extended its range to ISO 1600, double what the XA2 could handle. That makes it a natural partner for today's fast color and black-and-white films. A small DX badge on the front is the only outward clue. Most XA3s left the factory in black, with a rarer wine-red version alongside, and both accept Olympus's detachable side-mounted flash for instant fill light. In Very Good condition, it shows light signs of use. For the photographer who wants XA2 simplicity with modern film convenience, or the collector filling the gaps in an XA collection.
