Born from Midnight Clay and Engineering Obsession.
Yoshihisa Maitani, chief designer at Olympus and creator of the OM system, physically hand-sculpted the XA body from clay at his home through the night, refining and restarting until every curve felt inevitable. The name was chosen deliberately: X, the most striking letter in the English alphabet, paired with A for "Number One." Inside that obsessively designed clamshell lives a D.Zuiko 35mm f/3.5 lens built on a Reverse Retrofocus optical design, a world first, engineered specifically because Maitani refused to accept a 31mm compromise when he wanted 35mm. The shutter is held open by a magnet made from rare earth materials because no existing magnet was precise enough. Snap on the A11 flash for the night. Slide the cover shut and it vanishes in your palm. Complete with original box and A11 flash.
