Styled by Giugiaro. Nikon Made Simple.
In 1979 Nikon set out to make its most approachable SLR yet, and gave the job of shaping it to Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Italian car designer who would style the professional Nikon F3 the following year. The result is the EM: small, light at 460 grams, and as easy to use as a compact. Set the aperture and the camera chooses the shutter speed for you, anywhere from 1 second to 1/1000. A needle in the viewfinder shows exactly what it has picked, and a beeper warns you when the light gets low. If the batteries ever run out, a mechanical 1/90 second and Bulb keep you shooting. Underneath the friendly exterior is a genuine Nikon F mount, so the EM takes the full range of AI and AI-S Nikkors as well as the compact Series E lenses made alongside it. That pairing of simplicity and serious glass makes it one of the most affordable routes into the Nikon system. This listing is the body only, ready for the lens of your choice. In Very Good condition, it shows light signs of use. For the beginner who wants Nikon optics without a learning curve, or the Nikon shooter looking for a light second body for travel.
