Point, Shoot, or Take Control. The AE-1, Perfected.
Five years after the AE-1 put a microprocessor into the SLR, Canon refined the formula. Introduced in April 1981, the AE-1 Program added a fully automatic Program mode that sets both shutter speed and aperture for you, while keeping shutter-priority and full manual for when you want to make the decisions yourself. Canon also gave it a brighter viewfinder with user-interchangeable focusing screens, LED readouts that show exactly what the camera is doing, and support for the faster Power Winder A2 and Motor Drive MA. Behind the familiar silhouette are the Canon FD mount, home to a vast and affordable range of manual-focus lenses, and a cloth focal-plane shutter from 2 seconds to 1/1000. It stayed in production until 1989 and remains one of the most popular ways into film photography. This example comes with an FD lens and is in Very Good condition with light signs of use. For the beginner who wants automation as a safety net, or the enthusiast who wants a classic Canon that grows with them.
